Statement of intent

Task 1- How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words) 

- (Product one- Magazine) The media language of my Magazine will be appeasing towards my target audience. This will include simplistic but effective layout, engaging images and use of short snappy headlines to draw in my target audience. The Magazine will differ from the norm but only to suit the needs of the new preferences of the target audience by bringing a more sophisticated and modern take on the genre. My magazine will Take the simplistic tone of a magazine like “Time” and the multiple story layout of a magazine like “chat”. My Magazine will form revenue from physical sales and potentially advertising. Obviously if advertising is used it will be lightly featured and be aimed towards the target audience in question. My target audience is 16–25-year Olds who will be emotionally invested in my product. My magazine will bring personal stories, of those with a similar demographic to them, to life where people can read, absorb and hopefully relate to the stories which will keep them invested in the product and want to return for the next issue. My magazine will be aimed towards the working/ middle class person who can appreciate a coming-of-age story of a normal person. By using working middle and working-class people in my magazine and aiming it towards working and middle-class people, I can hopefully form that emotional engagement that will attain and maintain an audience. (229 words) 

- (Product two- Website) My website needs to attract and keep the attention of my target audience. I plan on doing this by using large, interesting images that try and encapsulate some of the main aspects of the headline in the first half of the page on my website. I know my target audience need to be interested in a product quickly otherwise they will stop looking at it quickly so engaging my audience on my website is of mass importance. My website will make revenue through subtle advertising that will be strategically placed on the pages of my site. My target audience will need to be engaged in the product to appreciate it and want to keep reading and interacting. To do this I will use words/headlines/images that stand out and interest my audience, a similar concept to what “chat” magazine does. My website will hold links to Instagram, twitter and other social medias so that I can interact with my audience to maintain their interest in my product and potentially use it as a resource to use for marketing my product. (179 words) 

 

 

Task 2- How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words) 

- The income for most magazines is through physical copy sales, online subscriptions and advertising in the magazine and on the website. To attract my target audience, which is a younger demographic, the price will be lower than others (£2.50) but will have to include advertising in and on the magazine and website. The magazines front cover will have a QR code that has a link to the subscription page on our website. The QR code will be surrounded by bold text that sounds out and reads something along the lines of, “Sign up for exclusive content and early access!”, to attract and establish brand loyalty. (105 words)
